I have worked in public, special and academic libraries for over 20 years in Australia and Papua New Guinea. My position before joining CSU in February 2007 was Information Literacy Coordinator at the University of Wollongong Library. From the mid 1980s to early 1990s I worked in Papua New Guinea as College Librarian/Lecturer in Library Studies at three teachers colleges in and around Rabaul, East New Britain Province. That position involved performing the whole gamut of library duties from lending through to strategic management! It also involved strong liaison with local community schools in developing model school libraries and information literacy programs for Year 1-6 children, as well as preservice and inservice teachers.
My teaching interests include:
I am currently working on my Phd entitled “Information Literacy and Personal Empowerment: A feminist exploration of information literacy, personal empowerment and internationalisation.” The study involves Papua New Guinean women who have participated in Australian university education and returned home. Using critical postcolonial feminist frameworks, this narrative research aims to bring alternate cultural and feminist perspectives to information literacy theory and discourses, and facilitate a view into the Australian international education experience of Papua New Guinean women.
I am also Chair of the Research Group, Australian and New Zealand Institute of Information Literacy (ANZIIL) and the Newsletter Editor for the Australian and New Zealand Comparative and International Education Society (ANZCIES).
