I am a supervisor for research students at the Honours and Master’s levels and am actively pursuing my own research objectives. I am currently completing a Grad Cert from Monash University in Emergency Planning and Disaster Medicine.
Teaching philosophy
My philosophy to teaching is one of inclusion and inquiry. I attempt to recognize the different learning styles of students, their level of maturity, professional and life experience and tailor their opportunities for learning based on these assessments. I also attempt to separate the concepts of training versus education and try to motivate independent thinking and thoroughly enjoy the expressions of my students when the epiphany finally happens.
Current subjects taught
I am currently the subject coordinator for Major Incident Management (CLS310), Managing Health Services (HSM202) and Clinical Studies 3 (CLS202 – 3) both internal and external student cohorts. I am also supervising research students.
I had my first exposure to research in 1995 when I was on the steering committee for the ALIVE Study out of Toronto. This stimulated my interest and involvement in prehospital clinical, education and management research. I continued to be involved in research projects while with Toronto EMS and the Sunnybrook-Osler Centre for Prehospital Care (Toronto).
Upon arriving at CSU in 2007, I have participated in research projects with Prof Malcolm Woollard, Coventry University, Prof Peter O’Meara, CSU, Mr. Brett Williams, Monash University and Dr. Patricia Logan, CSU.
I have supervised research students from Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto, Canada - Ambulance Service of New South Wales, Sydney, - the Bloorview Childrens Centre, Toronto, Canada –Ministry of Health, United Arab Emirates
