Prof Lexin Wang is an academic cardiologist specializing cardiovascular pharmacology and cardiac electrophysiology. After completing his training in clinical cardiology and cardiac electrophysiology at Peking Union Medical College and Royal Perth Hospital, he worked as a physician and academic at the First Hospital of Peking University and the University of Tasmania School of Medicine, respectively. He jointed CSU in 1998 to initiate pharmacology and therapeutics programs, which now serve several courses in the Faculty of Science.
Prof Wang is the head of CSU Cardiovascular Research, a multidisciplinary research group investigating new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in cardiovascular disease and stroke. He is an elected Fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand. He also holds adjunct appointments in several Australian and Chinese universities, such as Clinical Professor at the Cardiology Unit, Macquarie University, Honorary Professor and Director of the Department of Cardiology at Taishan Medical College. He is a recipient of the CSU Vice-Chancellor???s Award for Research Excellence in 2002 and 2006.
Teaching
Current subjects taught
- PHM430 Therapeutics
- BMS 301 Medical Science Special Topics
- BMS335 Clinical Cardiovascular Physiology
Research
Research interests are centered on the management of heart failure, hypertension, coronary artery disease, stroke and novel keyhole cardiac surgeries.
Current projects include:
1)T wave alternans in predicting sudden cardiac death in patients with heart failure;
2)Stem cell therapies for stroke; and
3) thoracoscopic repair of congenital cardiac defects in children and young adults
