BSc in Nutrition, Konkuk University, Seoul, Korea 1986.
Ph.D. in Physiology, Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina, USA 1992

I began my academic career in 1995 at Chosun University Medical School (Gwangju, South Korea) as an invited lecturer. The teaching topic was the pregnancy endocrinology based on my strong research records in that area during my postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Then I was employed as a full time lecturer at Dongshin University Oriental Medical School (Naju, South Korea). Teaching was introductory subjects of Human Physiology, Medical Terminology and Human Biology relating to health areas of nurses and oriental medicine doctors. I was teaching there until 2001.

My new teaching career began at New Zealand College of Oriental Medicine (Hamilton, New Zealand) in 2002. The teaching subjects were Human Anatomy and Physiology and Research Methodology. As part of my continuing development program, CAT (Certificate in Adult Teaching) was undertaken and successfully completed in 2004. This was followed up with the successful completion of the Refresher Teaching Course sponsored by the Waikato University (Hamilton, New Zealand) in 2006.

Since I started another new teaching job in CSU from July 2007, I have completed FULT session (on 25 September 2007, on 5 March 2008, on 16 April 2008, on 21 May 2008) and TTC (Tertiary Teaching Colloquium) in 2009. These programs in the domain of teaching practice have become a focal aspect in the university, given the importance of the role of ongoing continuing professional development for teaching academic staff within the context of the Performance Based Funding - an initiative of the federal government.

Teaching philosophy

My teaching occurs mainly at undergraduate level with six subjects. I also co-ordinate some subjects. Undergraduate teaching occurs face-to-face in a large lecture room. The subject is concurrently taught by distance education (DE) with hardcopy materials and textbooks and with interactive forum which is actively utilised by enrolled students. The chat room session has been found very useful especially for DE students.

Frequently, the subjects are in need of rewriting as they are not as contemporary as the industry requirements need them to be. I have often sought new challenges and seek to upgrade and stretch my knowledge base.
