The
People Involved
CSU Students
Each year up to 12 students in
the final year of the occupational therapy,
physiotherapy and speech pathology courses are involved in the Vietnam program.
Students self-nominate and ultimately self-select on the basis of their capacity to self-fund and meet the learning goals of the program. Although we aim for four students from each course, this balance is not always achieved, although so far we have always been able to achieve a trans-disciplinary
student team, critical for meeting the needs
of the staff and children of the orphanage and for meeting students' learning goals.
Student placements in Vietnam are for 6 weeks.
In the first week of
the placement students attend Vietnamese
language classes in the morning and visit
the orphanage in the afternoon. During the
placement they are supported by onsite fieldwork
educators drawn from CSU staff members and
other professionals. Fieldwork educators
work on rotation through the 6 weeks, there
is one week without on-site supervision (typically
week four) built into the program.
