Clare has been part of the lecturing team in occupational therapy since 1997. She teaches across a range of subject areas including, occupational reasoning, professional practice roles and responsibilities, psychosocial occupational therapy practice, and theory, history and philosophy of occupational therapy. Clare is also actively involved in facilitating learning through online technology and is moderator of the online forum for the School of Community Health, the OT students' online forum, and a variety of subject online forums. In addition, Clare is list administrator for a range of email listservs for current occupational therapy students, Charles Sturt University occupational therapy graduates, and local, national and international listservs for occupational therapists and occupational scientists.
Clare has interests in human occupation, philosophy, theory, spirituality, mental health, professional practice, mentoring and continuing professional development. Prior to working at CSU, Clare was employed as an occupational therapy clinician in a variety of mental health facilities, including community–based practice, long–term institutional settings and acute hospital environments.
Clare is currently researching occupational therapists' articulation of their use of theory, evidence and occupation–focus in their practice, and how they describe occupational therapy to others. Recently she completed a Heideggerian phenomenological study of spirituality within occupation for people who have experienced mental illness.
Clare is a member of the Community of Scholars – Complications Associated with Diabetes project. Her contribution to this group is to provide qualitative investigation of the experience of living with diabetes, and to further explore the effects of health monitoring.
Clare is an active member of OT AUSTRALIA, at local, state and National levels. Recently, Clare has been a member of the National evaluation committee for the Accredited Occupational Therapist Program, and a member of the State reference group for the MentorLink–Allied Health program. Clare is a current member, and past chairperson of the local Murray Area Occupational Therapy Focus Group.
