Following graduation Luke worked as a private clinician, focussing on biomechanics and general podiatry practice in regional New South Wales.

Luke pursued his involvement in clinical education at CSU in 2009, and began lecturing in Podiatry in early 2010. Luke draws on a successful sporting background, looking to present strong links between the theoretical component of his sports and biomechanics based subjects, and practical applications in a clinical setting.

Teaching

Luke has held a lecturing position at Charles Sturt University since 2010.  In that time he has been involved as a co-coordinator, lecturer, tutor and clinical educator for a number of subjects.  His interest in developing his teaching skills have also incorporated the completion of a Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education.

Innovations in Teaching

Luke has looked to drive a greater involvement of technology into the teaching of clinical skills, and to provide a number of technology based student resources. This includes the development of an educational CD for the teaching of base clinical skills.  He regularly uses a variety of technologies in the delivery of his subjects such as online polling, gait assessment software, smart phone applications, and 3D motion analysis.s

Research and Publications

Luck is currently investigating the influence of fatigue and hip flexor flexibility on pelvic position and the incidence of hamstring injuries.

Luke has also provided honours supervision for biomechanics and sports medicine based research projects.

Community Engagement

Luke has a continuing involvement with the internal clinical placement program, working with students undertaking both Podiatry and interdisciplinary field experience.  He has also provided CSU Podiatry representation at various international forums and meetings relating to clinical education and Podiatric biomechanics.
