EMAIL ROBERT TREVETHAN
Robert Trevethan double majored in psychology as an undergraduate at the Australian National University, and graduated with first class honours having conducted research in the area of neuropsychology. Subsequently he obtained an MSc in social psychology at London University, and a PhD from Macquarie University. His masters research was concerned with cues used in interpersonal perception, and his doctoral thesis was concerned with the relationships between people’s personalities and their health behaviours.
Robert began his academic career as a research assistant in the Education Research Unit of the Australian National University where he was part of a team investigating the provision of tertiary education in eastern and northern Australia. The main part of his academic life occurred at CSU and its predecessor institutions – with approximately half of that time spent on the Wagga Wagga campus and the other half at the Albury campus. In order to expand his areas of teaching expertise, he spent a number of months at the University of Southern California studying gerontology, and he also travelled extensively in the UK and North America investigating ways in which psychology could be taught most effectively to students of the health professions.
At CSU and its predecessor institutions, Robert taught a range of subjects including introductory psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology, research methods, the history and philosophy of psychology, and health–related subjects at the postgraduate level.
Robert was the founding head of the School of Community Health at CSU when that school was created at the start of 1997. He left the university at the start of 2008, and is currently an honorary fellow within the School of Community Health.
