A three-year Bachelor of Oral Health (Dental Technology) for the education and training of dental technicians will be considered for future introduction. Similar to the Bachelor of Oral Health (Therapy/Hygiene), a technical subject would be introduced in second semester, first year for dental technology students. A thorough understanding of the science that underpins the use of dental materials would be a feature of any proposed Bachelor of Oral Health (Dental Technology) course. The technical subject would be managed as short intensive subjects in an extended semester or replace one of the generic subjects in the first year program. This course would have to be accredited by the Dental Technicians Registrations Board of New South Wales under the Dental Technicians Registration Act 1975.
After completing the Bachelor in Oral Health (Dental Technology) students would enrol in the post-graduate Masters in Dental Prosthetics. This course would be accredited by the Dental Technicians Registrations Board of New South Wales under the Dental Technicians Registration Act 1975.
Specialist studies programs would be set up over a period of time as the clinical program is developed. Access to all dental specialist areas will be required within the education program. These courses would be designed to articulate with other Charles Sturt University programs and would provide the rural dental profession with an improved pathway that has not existed before.
