Associate Professor Sue McAlpin has had an extensive career in dietetics in community health in both urban and rural practice,  and senior roles in health management prior to being appointed Course Coordinator of the Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition& Dietetics) in 2001. During this time she has  extensive experience in developing and reviewing courses and teaching into the nutrition and dietetics program. Sue was appointed Sub-Dean of Regional Engagement in the CSU Faculty of Health Studies 2005-2008.


Sue's interest and involvement in rural health resulted in her appointment as the Australian College of Health Management's representative on the National Rural Health Alliance and Chair from 2004- 2006.
Sue's interest in rural health from an allied health and management perspective has resulted in her appointment to the Board of the Riverina Division of General Practice 2006- 2011. In 2012 Sue was elected to the Board of the Murrumbidgee Medicare Local.

Sue's teaching interests include community and public health nutrition, and professional and management aspects of dietetics practice. Sue has been the coordinator of the Bachelor of Health Science (Nutrition and Dietetics) Honours program for the past 4 years.

Sue's research interests include rural nutrition and dietetic practice, rural health, health management and currently food security. Sue has presented papers at national and international forums on rural dietetic practice, rural dietetic education and rural health management.
The historical research methodology was employed for her PhD which investigated rural health reform in NSW during the 1990s.  Sue has continued with her interest in rural health by recording over 30 oral history interviews with rural health professionals.
Twenty 25 have been undertaken on local medical officers in Wagga Wagga which have been transcribed and are held in the CSU Riverina Archives they include interview with following health medical practitioners:-

The interviews will form the background to a book titled 'Chronicles of Healing' detailing the development of medical practice in Wagga Wagga  from the 1950's. Sue is on the NSW Branch Committee of the Australasian Society for the History of Medicine.

In 2012 following the visit to Wagga from A/ Professor Cate Burns,  former WHO Fellow in Food Security,  Sue and other staff in the discipline have been developing collaboration and research with a number of organisations around Wagga to form  the Wagga District Food Coalition (WDFC). The members include Red Cross, Uniting Care Wagga, St Vincent de Paul, Murrumbidgee Local Health District, Murrumbidgee Medicare Local, and Wagga City Council. The WDFC have made a range of submissions to government for funding, Sue is currently Chair of the WDFC.
