Welcome from the Course Coordinator Peter Wynn
If you are interested in science and fascinated by animals, then you’ve come to the right place!
This brand new course will take you on an exciting journey through the basic life sciences of physiology, reproduction, genetics, nutrition and behaviour, which will form the foundation for your professional knowledge. Further training in scientific research methods, technical reporting and critical evaluation, will provide you with skills that are valued in numerous job settings, inside and outside the animal industries.
Later in the course you will enjoy the option to focus on livestock production, wildlife, horses, or perhaps even zoo animals, by choosing elective subjects from our programs in agriculture, environmental studies, equine studies, or captive vertebrate management. Alternatively, with sound academic achievement, you may decide to pursue a research career, by undertaking Honours, followed by a Masters or PhD program.
Current partners and sponsors in our research include: The Universities of Sydney, Melbourne, Queensland, Adelaide and Western Australia; multinational companies that specialise in nutrition and animal health; state and federal research agencies such as NSW DPI and CSIRO, horseracing forensic laboratories, and state agencies concerned with wildlife protection and the environment. Add to this list, government quarantine services, regulatory bodies, animal welfare agencies, feedlots, consultancy firms, veterinary diagnostic services, breeding services and zoos, and the wide range of potential employment opportunities becomes apparent.
Whatever your choices, we trust you will enjoy learning with some of the foremost experts in their field, drawn from around the World. You will also experience some of the best animal teaching facilities in Australia , thanks to the University’s ongoing investment in animal and veterinary sciences as flagships of the institution.
