Lower airway disease in horses: diagnosis, prevalence, effect on performance & treatment

Lower airway disease in horses is a common and performance limiting condition of horses, diagnosed by airway endoscopy and cytology. This project will evaluate aspects of this condition in our area, such as the incidence and prevalence of the condition, improved diagnosis, possible effects on performance and response to current treatments.

Efficacy of a selective COX-2 inhibitor (meloxicam) for pain relief in horses

Meloxicam is a selective inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis in the horse, currently registered as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic. Building on recent pharmacologic studies on this drug and using a novel methodology, this project will evaluate the efficacy of the product as a musculoskeletal analgesic in horses.
