Students enrolling in the Livestock Production specialisation of the Agriculture degree (BSc Agric) will enrol in that degree in the School of Agricultural and Wine Sciences but complete a number of subjects in the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences. These subjects include :
Because of the strong emphasis on animal handling, and development of practical skills, some of these subjects are not available by Distance Education (DE) but the first two years of the course can be completed, with slight modification, by DE. The others are available only through on-campus delivery. Please contact me or the School of Agricultural and Wine Sciences for further information before choosing your specialisation.
These subjects are delivered in excellent laboratories and animal handling facilities. The School has Anatomy and Physiology Practical Class rooms of the highest quality, and new facilities for sheep and cattle management classes. The University has a substantial sheep flock and beef cattle herd which is available to support teaching in the School. Access to dairy, pig and poultry production systems is provided through the School’s relationship with private producers. Instruction is given by members of staff with expertise in reproduction, animal health and animal production, assisted by outside experts as necessary.
