CONTACT CSU

Welcome from the Course coordinator Professor Kym Abbott

Veterinary Science at CSU is an outstanding course for outstanding young Australians who have a passion for animals, an understanding of the animal industries and a love for rural Australia.  We now have four years of students enjoying new,  purpose-built  facilities on a relaxed and spacious campus in one of the best cities of inland Australia.

Veterinary Science at CSU arose from the need for more veterinarians who want to live and work in regional Australia and who have the knowledge and skills to work with any of a broad range of animal species, from farm livestock to horses, companion animals and wildlife. From this has developed our aim – to train a new generation of professionals who can deliver the veterinary services and the veterinary research which will be required in the future by all sectors of the Australian community.

The CSU veterinary course is a 6-year, double degree program.  After successfully completing third year you will have earned a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology (BVetBio) in recognition of your command of the basic and pre-clinical sciences on which your later clinical training is built.  After completing the sixth and final year, you will have earned your Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) degree as well, and be ready and able to practise or pursue any other career in veterinary science that you wish. Your final year will finish in August, allowing you an early start on choosing a job and commencing your professional life.

This distinctive course is a great opportunity for the veterinary profession and for young Australians planning a career in veterinary science. The course offers many important advantages. These include modern, well-equipped facilities, a single rural site for the 6 years of the course creating a strong sense of collegiality between staff and students at all levels of the program. We also enjoy the support of an enthusiastic and interested rural community, ready access to a wide range of veterinary practices and farms, and the relaxed, enjoyable and affordable lifestyle which comes with living in a thriving regional centre of 60,000 people.

We have a student selection process which is unique in the world, and designed to select students with a deep commitment to animals and animal production, Australia’s livestock industries and to the communities of inland Australia. We evaluate the aptitude and experience of each student through a questionnaire and interview process in addition to our requirements for academic excellence.  Please look though these pages to learn more about our course, our work, our staff and existing students, and how to apply for the course. If you have further enquiries, please contact us as shown on the School Home page.
