Discussion Forums

Welcome to AFBMNetwork Discussion Forums !
Discussion forums is a service for AFBMNetwork members willing to participate in specific issues of wider interest to industry.

What the discussion forums are about ?

Basically AFBMNetwork members will have to express their interest to the Executive Officer about a particular issue upon which they would like to engage in discussion with other members all around the country and overseas. As an example there may be discussion forums on drought management issues, climate risk management, economic issues of farming, farming systems, agricultural commodity pricing and financial markets, agricultural banking, taxation of the primary sector, the next AFBMNetwork National Conference, etc.

A discussion forum is a virtual room that is created in the internet, using WebCT, a teaching facility means of The University of Sydney. Participants of the discussion forums will visit the website periodically and will have the opportunity to read what other peers' ideas about the issue in discussion are. Afterwards the visitor to the WebCT site will have the opportunity of putting his/her input to the discussion. There is not time constrain in terms of access, i.e. the participants can come to the forum at their most convenient time to get information and to put their input.

Discussion forums on specific issues will last for as longer as the participants wish to keep the forum alive.

We would like to think that AFBMNetwork members will use this opportunity to create a multiple interaction with friends around the country and overseas about specific issues of their interest. Remember: there is not constrain in terms of issues and number of topics; therefore it is up to all of you to use this excellent communication facility.

How will the discussion forums be organised ?

The organisation of the discussion forums encompasses the following steps:

  • Each discussion forum is the outcome of at least two AFBMNetwork members who wish to start discussing, or exchanging ideas about a particular issue. All what the members need to do is to drop an email to the Executive Officer of the Network about the proposal. Immediately a folder for that forum will be created in the webpage and a username and a password will be given to the participants to the forum.
  • Each forum will have an appointed coordinator. Each member of AFBMNetwork has the right to propose a topic and to propose him/herself to be appointed as a coordinator of a forum;
  • All the members of AFBMNetwork will be given access to The University of Sydney WEBCT facility for gaining entry to the electronic chat room. Instructions will be provided through email about the issue, and for accessing WebCT (where the the discussion rooms are placed) all you will have to do is click on the forum name and gain access through your username and password. If you require more information about the issue please contact the Administrative Assistant of the Network;
  • Coordinators of the forums, in integration with the participants, will establish the rules of the game.
  • Every member of AFBMNetwork can gain access to any of the on-going discussion forums at any time.
  • The members of the Management Board of AFBMNetwork, though participants to the forums, will play a supervisory role to ensure the quality of the discussions.

How do you log in to the discussion forums ?

For logging in to the discussion forums you need to become a member of AFBMNetwork. If you are not a member of AFBMNetwork go to the Membership folder of this webpage, fill in the Free Membership Application Form and submit it in an electronic manner.

Members of AFBMNetwork will be given a username (i.e. the first letter of your given name followed by your full surname) and a password to access the WebCT site, where the discussion rooms sit.
