Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Philosophy

The Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Philosophy are research degrees that aim to develop understanding, skills and attitudes necessary for conduct of individual, independent research that makes a substantial and unique contribution to knowledge in the selected field.

Doctor of Philosophy: Full-time research degrees will normally be completed within 3–4 years (up to 8 years for part–time degrees).

Master of Philosophy: Full–time research degrees will normally be completed within 2 years (up to 4 years for part–time degrees).

The degrees can be conducted on any topic relevant to the goals of the School of Environmental Sciences (SES) and the interests and expertise of its academic staff members. Initially, potential students should approach staff members with research experience that coincides with the student's broad area of interest to determine future research possibilities.
