I am a senior lecturer in Recreation Planning and Management and Ecotourism Planning, a discipline head and co-ordinator within the school of Environmental and Information Sciences, member of the Johnstone Centre of Parks, Recreati on and Heritage, and co-ordinator of Ecotourism Studies and Leisure Studies at Charles Sturt University. My personal research interests include motivational analysis of recreation and tourism participation, visitor management with a particular focus on ou tdoor recreation areas, the social and cultural dimensions of leisure and ecotourism planning and management.
I am a qualitative researcher who applies an interpretive perspective to assess impacts and resolve use conflicts and analyse the behavioural dimensions of recreation participation. I am an experienced teacher with teaching qualifications and a member of numerous professional associations, and have published widely in my chosen field. Internationally, I have developed an extensive network of colleagues through sabbaticals, research projects, short–course training workshops and conference presentations. This has not precluded a continued regional involvement with positions on numerous boards and committees and consulting involvement with local government. As a member of the CRC (Sustainable Tourism), Charles Sturt University is responsible for the Inter national Program which has the responsibility for providing education in the protected area and ecotourism fields in the Asia–Pacific region. To that end I have provided workshop training sessions up to four weeks in duration in China, Vietnam and India, with further workshops in Bhutan, Nepal and Papua being planned.
