Prior to starting my PhD I worked as a threatened species biologist for the New Zealand Department of Conservation before relocating to the USA in 1999 where I worked as an ecological consultant. My decision to start a PhD was stimulated by a desire to develop further as an ecologist. Currently my research interests include mutualisms and other interspecific interactions, and how these function to structure ecological communities. I am also interested in the use of stable isotopes to investigate trophic relationships and ecological processes. Other interests include nutritional ecology, directed seed dispersal and raptor ecology.
