Is it possible to restore the health of anabranches in the Murrumbidgee River while at the same time finding more efficient ways to deliver water from upstream dams to irrigators downstream? This research will examine the relationship between fish community, hydrology and in-stream habitat to predict how updating or replacing the Beavers Creek weir may affect fish habitat and populations. Data collected will be used to model the available habitat quality and quantity for adult and larval fish under different flows and inundation levels. This research may lead to a better understanding of the role of anabranch systems as fish refuges or nurseries.

Thesis topic
