Kelly is currently researching Micronesian heritage and conservation issues as a candidate in Charles Sturt University's Doctor of Philosophy program, building upon her work as the former Vice-chair for the Guam Historic Review Board and the Guam Preservation Trust Board. She taught the History of Guam and other histories at the university and high school levels for many years. Her thesis and much of her subsequent work examine the dynamics and implications of Guam history text and textbooks. Other work and interests have revolved around ethnoprimatological studies in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia and Ngeaur, Belau (Angaur, Palau).
