My background is in Science, having spent all of my working life as a technician with the University of Sydney and CSIRO. My honours degree was a palaeoenvironmental history project ; cores from a billabong on the Murrumbidgee River were examined with the dual aim of reconstructing past environments using physical and chemical analyses and testing the suitability of these types of sediments for this type of work.
My PhD topic is more about NRM and the relative influence of social factors on resource target condition. The research will be more qualitative than quantitative although a combination of methods will be used. A big challenge is the difficulty of integrating social and scientific data - Bayesian Networks will be used to explore the issues, guide the research and hopefully improve the decision making process for Natural Resource Managers.
