My Natural Resources Journalism degree ignited my interest in how individuals from diverse backgrounds and interests communicate with each other about complex environmental issues. My Honours research, examining how people valued specific types of native vegetation, reinforced this interest and introduced me to the issue of trust between government agencies and communities. In my PhD research, I am examining trust in a bushfire management context. I am exploring trust as a process, identifying the critical components of trusting relationships that evolve through the fire management stages of preparation, response and recovery. This research will aid government agencies in developing effective community engagement and risk communication strategies.
