There are many study choices available for your child, including having the flexibility to change preferences, alternative pathways to CSU such as TAFE, transferring to preferred courses and deferring an offer.
Your child may decide they wish to change their preferences after they receive their ATAR/ENTER.
Your child may consider taking a year or more off before going to university perhaps getting some work experience or undertaking a TAFE course to strengthen their application. Find out more about Pathway Programs to CSU.
There are often several courses that can help your child access the career they want, so it's good to look at other CSU courses that offer similar study outcomes.
Providing they perform well in their first year of study (at least a Credit average), your child may be eligible to transfer to their preferred course in their second year of study.
Deferring an offer allows students to delay the commencement of their course for 12 months, which can allow time to think about careers, earn money or travel. If your child defers their offer for 12 months, they are guaranteed entry into that place the following year. Some CSU courses cannot be deferred.

It is wise to plan well so that your child uses their time to their best advantage. For example, work experience in their industry of interest could give them a head start in their chosen field, while volunteering or travelling may complement their CV by demonstrating their initiative, and provide life experiences.
CSU encourages students interested in deferring and recognises the benefits this brings to those students, particularly in terms of their maturity and attitude to study. CSU is currently developing a gap year program to support students wishing to defer their place so that we can ensure what your child does in their break will add value to their future studies at CSU.
