This research degree aims to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for conduct of individual research at a level which will make a distinct contribution to knowledge.

Subject to regulation and approval, candidates may conduct their research at other places where adequate facilities and associate supervisors are available. The direction of the work remains under the control of the University supervisor.

Admission criteria

To qualify for candidature applicants must hold:

Admission to candidature is subject to approval by the Board of Graduate Studies.

Credit

Holders of a relevant Master degree may complete the degree in a minimum of two years.

Graduation requirements

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete the period of study and research and prepare a thesis which is assessed by examiners external to the University.

Course structure

Students will enrol in one of the following discipline based research subjects for the period of their candidature:

* Enrolment in these subjects is only possible after completion of five years (full-time) or ten years (part-time) in codes 701 and/or 702.

Additional subjects may be added following approval by the Board of Graduate Studies.

Only a limited number of places are available. Within the Faculty, research degrees can only be undertaken in specific topic areas where resources are available. Intending applicants should discuss their proposal with the University.
