Awards and Prizes

Unless indicated to the contrary all award and prize winners receive a certificate from the University in addition to a cheque for the value of the award or prize or in addition to some other benefit conferred by the award or prize. The value of an award or prize may change without notice.

All awards and prizes are presented annually although a particular award or prize may be withheld in a particular year if there is no candidate worthy of the award or prize or if it is not funded for that year.

Unless indicated to the contrary students do not have to apply to be considered for an award or prize.

Awards and prizes won by graduating students are normally presented at graduation ceremonies; and those won by continuing students are normally presented at a ceremony held on the relevant campus. However, some professional bodies may wish to present their award or prize at their own function.

Faculty of Arts

Australian Psychological Society Prize

Criteria: awarded to the graduand in either an honours year in psychology or in the Graduate Diploma in Counselling with the most distinguished record.
Award: $300

Faculty of Commerce

The Chartered Accountants Prize

Criteria: awarded to the first year student who is studying accounting and business who achieves
the best over-all academic performance.
Award: $250

Associated Meat Processors Award of Excellence for Mixed Media

Criteria: three prizes awarded to students enrolled in an approved visual arts course at the Albury-Wodonga Campus, for an individual art work in mixed media, selected for originality and technical competence.
Award: $100

Australian Newsprint Mills Award of Excellence for a Work on Paper

Criteria: awarded to a student enrolled in an approved visual arts course at the Albury-Wodonga Campus, for an individual art work on paper, selected for originality and technical competence.
Award: $100

Foto Suppliers Award of Excellence for Photography

Criteria: three prizes awarded to students enrolled in an approved visual arts course at the Albury-Wodonga Campus, for an individual art work in photography, selected for originality and technical competence.
Award: $100

The Drysdale Award for Visual Art

Criteria: awarded to a student graduating from an approved visual arts course taught at the Albury-Wodonga Campus, who is considered to have consistently reached a high performance for the duration of his or her studies.
Award: $1,000 plus a medallion.

School of Business

Australian Institute of Management Prize - Murray Valley Branch Prize

Criteria: awarded to students who have completed requirements for the Bachelor of Business award at the Albury-Wodonga Campus, specialising in tourism management, marketing or industrial relations. It is awarded to the most outstanding graduate for a particular year and cannot be shared.
Award: $250 plus certificate or medallion and one year's membership of the Institute of Management.

Best Achiever's Award in Tourism and Hospitality Studies

Criteria: awarded by the NSW Government to a student who is an Australian citizen or a person granted permanent residency in Australia, enrolled in the Bachelor of Business course through the School of Business, with the most meritorious performance in the second year subjects of the tourism management specialisation.
Award: $1,500
Award holders may be required to repay monies received if they fail to complete the course.

Stirlings Accountancy Prize

Criteria: awarded to a part-time student enrolled in Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) course through the School of Business with the best performance in a minimum of three second year accounting specialisation subjects taken during a particular year.
Award: $400

Human Resources Management Group Prize for Industrial Relations

Criteria: awarded to a second year Bachelor of Business student enrolled through the School of Business specialising in industrial relations with the potential to make the best contribution to industrial relations in the future.
Award: $300

Albury Wodonga Branch of Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants Prize

Criteria: awarded to the graduating student who has completed requirements for the Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) award through the School of Business and who has the best academic record in the following subjects:

Award: $300 plus an inscribed medallion.

Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants -Best First Year Accountancy Student Prize

Criteria: awarded to the student who has completed first year requirements of the Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) course undertaken through the School of Business, which comprises eight subjects including ACC110 Accounting 2 and a minimum of six of the eight subjects being foundation year subjects. The prize cannot be shared.
Award: $500 plus a medallion.

Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants - Best Second Year Accounting Student Prize

Criteria: awarded to the second year Bachelor of Business (Accounting) student enrolled through
the School of Business who completes 16 or 17 subjects, including the following:

Award: $500 plus medallion.

Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants - Best Graduating Accounting Student Prize

Criteria: awarded to the most outstanding graduate in the Bachelor of Business (Accounting) course undertaken through the School of Business. The prize cannot be shared.
Award: $500 plus medallion plus two years free membership of the Society.

Financial Accounting Prize

Criteria: awarded to a student enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) course at the Albury-Wodonga Campus, who has made a significant contribution to the life or environment of the Campus and who has the best results in ACC220 Financial Accounting 1 and ACC320 Financial Accounting 2. The student must have resided for at least three years in northeast Victoria or the Riverina region of NSW at the time subjects were completed and must have come from a predominantly rural background.
Award: $250.

Association of Taxation and Management Accountants (ATMA) Prize

Criteria: two prizes awarded to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) course, the first of whom has obtained the best results in the ACC210 Management Accounting 1 and ACC310 Management Accounting 2 or equivalent; and the second of whom has obtained the best result in the subject LAW320 Income Tax Law and Practice or the equivalent subject.
Award: $250 and one year's free membership of the ATMA if the student is graduating.

Belbridge Hague & Co Award for Excellence in the Bachelor of Business (Management)

Criteria: awarded to a second year Bachelor of Business (Management) student at the Albury-Wodonga Campus who has completed the eight foundation subjects at a high standard. The award cannot be shared.
Award: $300.

Butterworth Book Prize

Criteria: eight prizes awarded to the best student in each of the following subjects in Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) course:

School of Community Health

Australian Association of Occupational Therapists NSW Prize

Criteria: awarded to the graduand with the best performance in the Bachelor of Health Science (Occupational Therapy) course.
Award: $100.

Diversional Therapy Association of Australia Prize

Criteria: awarded to the graduand who is a diversional therapist and demonstrated the best performance in the Diploma of Health Science (Leisure and Health) course.
Award: $100.

Diversional Therapy Association of Australia Prize

Criteria: awarded to the graduand who is a diversional therapist and demonstrated the best performance in the Bachelor of Health Science (Leisure and Health) course.
Award: $100.

John Milton Memorial Prize

Criteria: awarded to the student with the best performance upon completing the Bachelor of Health Science (Gerontology) course whilst enrolled as a distance education student at the Albury-Wodonga Campus.
Award: $200.

School of Environmental and Information Sciences

DA Johnstone Perpetual Award

Criteria: awarded to the most outstanding graduate from either the Associate Degree in Applied Science (Parks, Recreation and Heritage) or the Bachelor of Applied Science (Parks, Recreation and Heritage) courses. Normally, the recipient must graduate with Distinction. The prize cannot be shared.
Award: $150 plus inscribed medallion or plaque.

Australian Newsprint Mills Prize for Vegetation Management

Criteria: awarded to the graduate in the Bachelor of Applied Science (Parks, Recreation and Heritage) course who achieved the best result in the three vegetation management subjects in the course (BIO262 Vegetation Ecology, BIO365 Fire
Ecology and Management, and BIO362 Vegetation Management).
The prize cannot be shared.
Award: $200.

IBM Wangaratta Computing Prize for Excellence after First Year - Computing

Criteria: awarded to the continuing student at the Albury-Wodonga Campus who performs best at the first attempt, in the first year subjects of the Bachelor of Information Technology course.
Award: $150

The Vision Screen Printing Prize for Excellence after Second Year - Computing

Criteria: awarded to the continuing student at the Albury-Wodonga Campus who performs best having completed, at the first attempt, the second full-time year or fourth part-time year of the Bachelor of Information Technology course.
Award: $200

The Beechworth Bakery Prize for Computing - Major Project

Criteria: awarded to the student or team of students at the Albury-Wodonga Campus who has completed, at the first attempt, ITC307 Software Development Project and who has developed and implemented the best overall computer system.
Award: $300 (to be divided between the team if applicable).

Multi-faculty prizes

Bathurst Campus Award for Leadership

Criteria: awarded to a student or group of students who have demonstrated leadership which has enhanced the quality of life of the Bathurst campus or its regional community. Nominations for the award are invited annually by the Head of Campus.
Award: a citation presented to the winner(s) at a major function held on the campus as decided by the Award Panel.
Closing date: nominations close in October.

Central Western Branch of Australian Federation of University Women of NSW Prize

Criteria: awarded to the most meritorious woman graduand in the Central Western District of NSW who is enrolled at the Bathurst Campus.
Award: $75

CSU - Mitchell Graduates Association Community Achievement Award

Criteria: awarded to the graduand enrolled at the Bathurst Campus who makes the most significant contribution to, or affecting the greatest change in, the quality of life in a community.
Award: as determined by the prize committee.

The Open Learning Institute Prize

Criteria: awarded to the undergraduate student, at least 12 months from completion of their course, who is considered to have best used the openness/flexibility offered by CSU to overcome disability or hardship to persevere and succeed in his or her studies.
Award: $400

Research Plus Pty Ltd Prize

Criteria: awarded for meritorious performance in specified computing subjects undertaken by a student in an undergraduate course not majoring in computing who is enrolled at the Bathurst Campus.
Award: $250

Towers Prize

Criteria: awarded to a full-time student residing in the Bathurst on-campus residences who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to academic studies and to the residential community.
Award: $200

Western Institute of TAFE Award

Criteria: awarded to the most outstanding student, residing within the Western Institute of TAFE area, who graduates from a CSU course after articulating into CSU from a TAFE course.
Award: gift/goods and medallion valued at $250.

Criteria: two prizes awarded to Bachelor of Arts (Communication) students who have displayed excellence in radio documentaries. One prize for a radio documentary of less than five minutes' duration and the other for a radio documentary of thirty minutes' duration.

Christine McGee Prize

Criteria: awarded to the student with the most outstanding results in second year print journalism subjects undertaken through the School of Communication.

David Potts' Internship Prize

Criteria: awarded to the graduand enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts (Communication) course with the most successful internship in organisational communication undertaken through the School of Communication.
Award: $150

Daniel J Edelman Prize

Criteria: awarded to final year student from the School of Communication based on a written application and an interview with the Prize Committee.

Frank Ponton Memorial Prize

Criteria: awarded to the most academically and professionally promising third year Bachelor of Arts (Communication) student who has completed at least two theatre studies subjects through the School of Communication.

Criteria: awarded to a student from the Parkes Shire enrolled in the Bachelor of Nursing course with meritorious performance in first year subjects undertaken through the School of Nursing and Health Science.

Pearson Prize

Criteria: awarded to a graduand in the Bachelor of Nursing course for the most outstanding achievement in subjects undertaken through the School of Nursing and Health Science.
Award: two nursing or science publications selected by the prize winner.

Primary Health Care Award for Excellence

Criteria: awarded to the group of students who are judged as having presented the best seminar on the project they undertook during their clinical practicum in the Bachelor of Nursing course.
Award: $500

Primary Health Care Poster Prize

Criteria: awarded to the students who are judged as having presented the best poster at the seminar following a clinical practium in the Bachelor of Nursing course.
Award: $50

Primary Health Care Award for Excellence

Criteria: awarded to the group of students who are judged as having presented the best seminar on the project they undertook during their clinical practicum in the Bachelor of Nursing course.
Award: $500

The Emergency Management of Australia Book Prizes

Criteria: awarded to the first and second year Bachelor of Social Science (Emergency Management) students who achieve the best academic performance.
Award: $150 each

Criteria: awarded to the third year Bachelor of Social Science (Emergency Management) student who attains the highest mark for a major written project in an emergency management subject.
Award: $200

The Emergency Management of Australia Prize

Criteria: awarded to the Australian student for best academic performance in Bachelor of Social Science (Emergency management) course who is enrolling in the Master of Emergency Management.

John Overton Prize

Criteria: awarded to the graduand whose research undertaken in APS302 Advanced Paramedical Science 2 has the potential to have a positive impact within the short term on the services provided by the Ambulance Service of NSW.
Award: bronze medallion, $250 and an inscription on a perpetual shield.

Criteria: awarded to the student enrolled in either the Diploma of Social Science (Justice Studies) or the Bachelor of Social Science (Justice Studies) course with the most distinguished result in the subject JST205 Criminology undertaken through the School of Social Sciences and Liberal Studies.

Australian Institute of Criminology Prize

Criteria: awarded to the student with the most outstanding results in the subject JST205 Criminology undertaken in the internal mode

Criteria: awarded to the student with the most distinguished record in consecutive sessions in the subjects SOC101 Introductory to Sociology and SOC102 Social Inequality undertaken through the School of Social Sciences and Liberal Studies.

Lindsay Smith Memorial Prize

Criteria: awarded to a graduand with meritorious achievement in political science subjects undertaken through the School of Social Sciences and Liberal Studies.

National Crime Authority Prize

Criteria: awarded to the student enrolled in the Bachelor of Social Science (Justice Studies) course with the most outstanding results in POL303 Organised Crime.

Police Association of New South Wales Prize

Australian College of Education New South Wales Chapter Prize

Criteria: awarded to an internal full-time continuing 4th year student from either the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood), Bachelor of Education (Primary) or graduand from Bachelor of Education (Secondary Mathematics) courses who has displayed outstanding ability both in academic studies and in teaching practice whilst a student of the School of Teacher Education.
Award: one year's associate membership of the College and a set of the College's publications for the preceding year.

Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation Award

Criteria: awarded to a graduand of the Bachelor of Social Science (Recreation and Human Movement) course or the personal development, health and physical education strand of the Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) course who contributes most to the profession through activities that enhanced the reputation of the course.
Award: annual subscription to ACHPER.

Bachelor of Education (Secondary Mathematics) Course Prize

Criteria: awarded to a student graduating from the Bachelor of Education (Secondary Mathematics) course undertaken through the School of Teacher Education, who has displayed outstanding ability.
Award: $180 book voucher.

Bonham Practicum Prize

Criteria: awarded to the internal full-time continuing 4th year student from a primary or early childhood course who has displayed outstanding ability in teaching practice subjects undertaken through the School of Teacher Education.
Award: $180

Colleen Gale Prize

Criteria: awarded to the internal full-time continuing student from the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) course for an outstanding final year practicum.
Award: $200

Elwyn Morey Award in Early Childhood Education

Criteria: awarded to the internal full-time continuing 4th year student in the Bachelor of
Education (Early Childhood) course, undertaken through the School of Teacher Education, who has displayed outstanding ability both in academic studies and teaching practice.
Award: $150

Lionel Allen Award

Criteria: awarded to the most meritorious student graduating from any full-time course who has displayed outstanding ability in subjects undertaken through the School of Teacher Education.
Award: $200

School of Teacher Education Bachelor of Education Courses Prize

Criteria: awarded to the graduands in the Bachelor of Education course, undertaken through the School of Teacher Education, who have achieved distinguished results in fourth year subjects.
