Majors and Minors in Vocational Education and Training

VET Major

For students in courses which have provisions for a major and who choose to complete a major in vocational education and training, the following sequence of 8 subjects is recommended:

Level 1

• EPT 103 Teaching and Training Practices 1 + *

Level 2

• EEL 201 Learning and Development: Adolescence and Beyond
• EEB 201 Language, Literacy and Numeracy
• EMC 201 The Australian Training System*
• EMC 202 Curriculum Theory & Practice: 2* and
• EPT 203 Teaching and Training Practices 2+ or
• EMT 201 Educational Technology#

Level 3/4

• EEL 301 Lifelong Learning & Problem Solving and
• EPT 304 Teaching and Training Practice 3 + or
• EEL 406 Mentors and Mentoring or
• EEE 403 Assessment and Evaluation: VET*

Students may negotiate changes to the above sequence with the Course Coordinator.

Students who complete all four * subjects are eligible for a Certificate IV in Workplace Training.

+ These subjects have a compulsory practical component.

# This subject has a compulsory residential school and requires attendance at Wagga Wagga for one weekend.

VET Minor

For students in courses which have provision for a minor and who choose to complete a minor in vocational education and training, either of the following sequences of 5 subjects is recommended:

Sequence 1: A teaching emphasis

Level 1

• EPT 103 Teaching and Training Practice 1 +

Level 2

• EPT 203 Teaching and Training Practices 2 +

and two of the following subjects:

• EEL 201 Learning and Development: Adolescence and Beyond or
• EMT 201 Educational Technology# or
• EEB 201 Language, Literacy and Numeracy

Level 3/4

One of the following subjects:

• EEL 404 Information Processing and Educational Practice or
• EPT 304 Teaching and Training Practices 3 + or
• EEL 406 Mentors and Mentoring.

+ These subjects have a compulsory practical component.

# This subject has a compulsory residential school and requires attendance at Wagga Wagga for one weekend.

Sequence 2: A VET emphasis.

Level 2

• EMC201 The Australian Training System
• EMC202 Curriculum Theory & Practice: VET

Level 3

• EMC 301 Training in Organisations 1
• EMC 302 Training in Organisations 2
• EEL 301 Lifelong Learning and Problem Solving
