The objectives of this course are to develop graduates with a detailed knowledge and understanding in the various disciplines of medical science for a range of individual employment and career opportunities. The study of compulsory and elective subjects which include pathology, financial and human resource management, legal , ethical and social issues of medical science aims to guide students towards the code of conduct of the profession. There is no research component to this course.

Students may elect to exit following the completion of the first four subjects and graduate with the Graduate Certificate in Medical Science (Pathology).

Admission criteria

Applicants must:

(a) hold a Bachelor of Medical Science (Pathology), Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or an equivalent degree in a related discipline;

and

(b) have at least two years of pathology laboratory experience.


Credit

Students who have completed the Graduate Certificate in Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) are awarded credit for the subjects completed in the Graduate Certificate.

Articulation

The Graduate Certificate in Medical Science (Pathology) is an exit-point only course within the Graduate Diploma of Medical Science (Pathology).

Graduation requirements

To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 64 points.
