Joint award with the University of Mauritius
This program enables holders of the University of Mauritius Diploma in Information and Library Studies to upgrade their qualification to Charles Sturt University’s Bachelor of Arts (Library and Information Science). Students complete some subjects through CSU in the distance education mode and some subjects at the University of Mauritius.

Admission criteria
Applicants must be residents of Mauritius and should hold the University of Mauritius Diploma of Information and Library Studies and 2 GCE A-levels or equivalent. Residents of Mauritius with additional, or alternative, library qualifications will be considered if the quota is not filled by Diplomate applicants.
Applicants should also have a basic knowledge and understanding of using personal computers. Successful applicants must have access to the Internet during the period they are enrolled in the course in order to complete course requirements.
Graduation requirements
To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 192 points comprising the credit package of 88 points awarded upon admission and 104 points completed during enrolment in the course. Upon completion, the award Bachelor of Arts (Library and Information Science) is jointly conferred by CSU and the University of Mauritius. The conferring universities are shown in post-nominals as CSU/Maur.
Professional recognition
Aassessment for formal recognition has been sought to allow graduates to be admitted to Associate (professional) Membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) without further examination.
Course structure
Students are awarded a credit package for 5 compulsory library major subjects, 3 library electives and 3 non-library major subjects. Students are required to complete 6 compulsory library major subjects, 1 library elective subject and 3 practicum subjects through CSU and 5 non-library electives through the University of Mauritius.

Field work
The professional study visit consists of visits to at least 3 libraries, a two week professional placement; and a professional activity subject which requires students to attend and report on a minimum of 30 hours of professional activities (such as conference sessions, seminars, workshops) of value to the development of library and information services professionals. These subjects are completed during enrolment in the course.

Mauritius study sessions
A 5-day study session undertaken by CSU staff is held in Mauritius at the beginning of each year, and also in August of the final year. These sessions introduce students to, inter alia, CSU, the course, distance study and at least the next two subjects to be studied. CSU staff also participate in visits to local libraries (one practicum).
