The Bachelor of Hotel Management addresses an increasing need for a course, which enables students to progress from post-secondary courses to enhance their skills in this area. This course aims to produce broad based business graduates with specialist knowledge in hotel management and will be offered in association with Holmesglen Institute of TAFE and Martin College.

Holmesglen is an autonomous institution. Its School of Tourism and Hospitality currently offers the Diploma of Hospitality.

Martin College currently offers a Diploma of Hospitality Management and an Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management.

Admission criteria

Course Option 1: Students admitted to this option are required to have completed the Diploma in Hotel Management from the Holmesglen Institute of TAFE within ten years of admission to this degree course.

Course Option 2: Standard University admission criteria are applied to students admitted to this option.

Course Option 3: Students admitted to this option are required to have completed the Diploma in Hospitality Management from Martin College within ten years of admission to this degree course.

Credit

For Course Option 1, a credit package of 104 points is awarded upon admission for the Diploma in Hotel Management.

For Course Option 3, a credit package of 96 points is awarded upon admission for the Diploma in Hospitality Management. Sixteen points of credit are also awarded during enrolment in the course upon completion of the Certificate and Advanced Certificate of the Wine and Spirit Education Trust.

In addition to the standard credit packages outlined in Graduation requirements for Course Options 1 and 3, credit is normally granted for relevant Certificates and Diplomas. Overseas qualifications will be considered for credit towards the Bachelor of Hotel Management degree. Additionally, credit will be granted for equivalent studies done at other tertiary institutions within ten years of admission to the degree. The maximum credit that can be awarded overall in the course is 128 points.

Graduation requirements

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 192 points (24 subjects). For Course Option 1, this comprises the credit package of 104 points and 88 points (11 subjects) completed during enrolment in the course. For Course Option 3, this comprises the credit package of 96 points, 80 points (10 subjects) completed during enrolment in the course and 16 points of credit awarded upon completion of the Certificate and Advanced Certificate of the Wine and Spirit Education Trust.

Professional Accreditation

The Hotel Catering and Institutional Management Association is currently evaluating the eligibility for membership of graduates from this course.
