ESS407 UNDERSTANDING LITERACY PROBLEMS (8)
Enrolment restriction(s): Bachelor of Education (Primary), Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood), Graduate Certificate in Education (Special Education), Graduate Diploma of Special Education and Master of Education (Special Education) students only.
This subject has been designed to develop and increase student awareness and knowledge of linguistic development and literacy problems experienced by children.  This subject has an emphasis on ‘hands-on’ approach to dealing with children who have literacy difficulties.  Literacy in this topic will include reading, writing and oral components and students will be introduced to linguistic theory and language development in children.  Assessment procedures will be examined as well as various teaching strategies and approaches to deal with difficulties children may have with reading, writing and communication.
