JST422 ETHICS AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE IN FRAUD INVESTIGATION (8)
This subject will consider ethical issues associated with the investigation of fraud offences with reference to reasoned arguments within a structured framework of ethical theory.   This will include moral and legal decision-making on the basis of moral reasoning.   Ethical matters that need to be considered when classifying a fraud as a civil or criminal matter and aspects of white-collar crime will also be canvassed together with trends towards privatised policing in the investigation of fraud in both the public and private sectors.  Ethical issues which face the investigator, including the cultural acceptance of fraud and decisions to prosecute offenders or protect the public image of the organisation, will be examined in depth as well as suspects’ and victims’ rights.
