BEd(Prim)(Hons)

The Bachelor of Education (Primary)(Honours) is a four-year on campus course for students admitted from 1997.

This course is designed to train students to teach at the primary (K-6: 5-12 years) level. The Bachelor of Education (Primary) course is a nationally accredited and registered award in tertiary education and is recognised for employment by State and Commonwealth Departments of Education.

The Honours stream is designed to permit selected students to complete a program in research methodology and conduct their own research under supervision. Furthermore, this program enhances the efforts of high potential students to influence professional practice through research and facilitate access for students to proceed to research-based studies at Masters or Doctoral level.

Enrolment through

Bathurst Campus

Dubbo Campus (first three years on the Dubbo Campus and the fourth year on the Bathurst Campus)

Study mode

On campus (also available to international students at Bathurst Campus: pass degree only – Honours stream not available)

Full-time 4 years (8 sessions)

Transfer into the Honours stream

In order to be eligible for transfer into the Honours stream at the beginning of year three, students will be required to achieve a grade point average of 5.5 in years one and two of the course.

Graduation requirements

To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 256 points (32 subjects). This consists of a series of compulsory and elective subjects, and an extended professional experience. For students in the Honours stream, determination of the grade of Honours will depend on coursework performance in years three and four of the course, as well as performance in the research project.

Practicum requirements

A student must meet the terms required in academic subjects before undertaking each practicum.

The normal prerequisite for the practicum will be a pass in all preceding subjects. With the approval of the Progression Committee, a student with no more than one failed subject may be permitted to proceed to the next practicum.

A student must successfully complete both the academic and practicum components of the practicum subjects.
