This course replaced the Master of Public Policy and Administration/Graduate Diploma of Public Administration (Policing)/Graduate Certificate in Police Management from 2004.

The Master of Leadership and Management (Policing) Graduate Award further develops students’ high level professional practice by examining the challenges of contemporary executive leadership in national and international policing and related regulatory professions, in the context of its theoretical, conceptual and empirical foundations.

The Graduate Diploma of Leadership and Management (Policing) Award enhances practitioners’ leadership and management skills and knowledge by encouraging reflection on the changing policing and regulatory professional environment through a focus on corporate governance, organisational change and policy and practice issues.

The Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management (Policing) Award provides a pragmatic and comprehensive understanding of the practical challenges of leadership and management in complex contemporary policing and regulatory professional environments.

Admission criteria

Candidates for admission to the Master of Leadership and Management (Policing) degree shall:

1)    either hold a Bachelor degree in a related area, or have qualified for an equivalent award; or

2)    have completed the requirements of the Graduate Diploma in Leadership and Management (Policing) or subjects deemed equivalent by the Course Coordinator.

 

Additionally, a number of police jurisdictions have articulation arrangements with the School, and prospective applicants should discuss these with the Course Coordinator.

Articulation

The Master award, the Graduate Diploma and the Graduate Certificate make up an articulated set of courses and credit is given in each higher level course for the subjects completed in the lower level course.

The Master award, the Graduate Diploma and the Graduate Certificate make up an articulated set of courses and credit is given in each higher level course for the subjects completed in the lower level course.

Graduation requirements

To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 96 points (consisting of ten 8 point subjects and one 16 point subject) for the Master degree, 64 points (consisting of  eight 8 point subjects) for the Graduate Diploma and 32 points (consisting of four 8 point subjects) for the Graduate Certificate.

Course structure

The Graduate Certificate comprises three core subjects and one restricted elective. The Graduate Diploma comprises six core subjects and two restricted electives. The Master program comprises seven core subjects and four restricted electives. The elective sequence must be discussed with the Course Coordinator.
