The course is designed to provide fourth year training in psychology and an avenue to postgraduate study. The course was previously known as the Graduate Diploma of Counselling, indicating its orientation.

Admission criteria

Applicants:

  should hold a degree which includes a three-year major in psychology accredited by the Australian Psychological Society completed within the last 10 years;

  must have grades of credit average or better in APS major psychology subjects; and

  should be personally suitable for work in the area of counselling psychology.

 

Graduation requirements

To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 64 points.

Residential schools

Compulsory residential schools are held on campus each session. In some subjects, attendance at weekend schools may be required. Students will be notified of precise residential school dates in the preceding session.

Professional recognition

The Postgraduate Diploma of Psychology is accredited as a fourth year psychology course by the Australian Psychological Society and the NSW Psychologists Registration Board.

*These subjects are available only for the students sponsored by the NSW Department of School Education or other school systems. Please note that sponsored students must also complete EDS405 School Counselling Practice, which is additional to the 64 points required for graduation.

The NSW Department of School Education and other school systems sponsor students in this course. These students, referred to as sponsored students, should complete the subjects indicated with an asterisk in the Enrolment pattern above.
