These courses are
designed to provide police officers throughout Australia, and potentially
beyond, with the opportunity to undertake postgraduate studies in criminal
intelligence that will support and enhance their training. They have been
developed in collaboration with the Australian Institute of Professional
Intelligence Officers (AIPIO).

Admission criteria
Graduate Certificate:
Applicants should possess an undergraduate degree from a recognised Australian
higher education institution or equivalent.
Alternately, students who have completed entry-level industry training
and have at least three years professional experience in the law enforcement or
intelligence fields will also be eligible. An example of such experience would
be an intelligence analyst with the police or ASIO.
Graduate Diploma:
Applicants must have completed requirements for the Graduate Certificate in
Criminal Intelligence.
Credit
The Centre for
Investigative Studies and Crime Reduction will undertake an assessment of
RPL/RCC for students with extensive vocational training and experience in the
intelligence field. With appropriate RPL/RCC experience, students may be given
one subject credit (JST448)
in the Graduate Certificate. A ten-day residential National Strategic
Intelligence Course (NSIC) is already offered by CSU in conjunction with a
consortium of law enforcement agencies. The residential NSIC and subsequent
workplace practicum content equates to a two full 8 point subjects of
University study. On successful completion of the NSIC residential and
post-course workplace practicum, students will be given two subject credits (JST448 and JST449) in the Graduate
Certificate.
Articulation
The Graduate
Certificate in Criminal Intelligence articulates with the Graduate Diploma of
Criminal Intelligence and credit is awarded in the Graduate Diploma for all
subjects completed in the Graduate Certificate.
Graduation requirements
To graduate, students
must satisfactorily complete 32 points (four subjects) for the Graduate
Certificate and 64 points for the Graduate Diploma (comprising the 32 points of
credit awarded for the Graduate Certificate and 32 points (four subjects)
completed during enrolment in the course).
Admission to Master of Arts
Students who have
satisfactorily completed the Graduate Diploma requirements with a credit
average are eligible to apply for admission to the Master of Arts, which offers
specialisations in areas of policing. Upon admission to the Master degree
course, students are awarded credit for the Graduate Diploma and upon
completion of the dissertation requirements for the Master degree course (a
further 32 points), students graduate with the award Master of Arts (Criminal
Intelligence).
