These courses are
designed to provide police officers throughout Australia, and potentially
beyond, who are engaged in the area of negotiation with the opportunity to
undertake postgraduate studies that will support and enhance their training.
They have been developed in collaboration with the New South Wales Police
Service, and will provide specialised education in the area of negotiation,
building on existing skills and increasing the professionalism of officers engaged
in this field of practice.

Admission criteria
It is expected that
applicants will be serving police personnel with a vocational background in the
field of negotiation, or a discipline aligned very closely with policing, e.g.
correctional services or the military. They must have successfully completed
the Advanced Diploma of Police Negotiation or equivalent initial training.
Credit
For both the Graduate
Certificate and Graduate Diploma, students will study a practical residential
subject provided by Police Trainers. These residential components are already
established and the content equates to a full 8 point subject of University
study. The appropriate residential will be compulsory in both the Graduate
Certificate and Graduate Diploma qualification. On successful completion of the
residential, the student will be given credit for JST466 in each award.
Other credit will only be considered in relation to relevant tertiary courses.
Articulation
The Graduate
Certificate in Police Negotiation articulates with the Graduate Diploma of
Police Negotiation and credit is awarded in the Graduate Diploma for all
subjects completed in the Graduate Certificate.
Graduation requirements
To graduate, students
must satisfactorily complete 64 points (eight subjects) for the Graduate Diploma
and 32 points (four subjects) for the Graduate Certificate.
Admission to Master of Arts
Students who have
satisfactorily completed the Graduate Diploma requirements with a credit
average are eligible to apply for admission to the Master of Arts, which offers
specialisations in areas of policing. Upon admission to the Master degree
course, students are awarded credit for the Graduate Diploma and upon
completion of the dissertation requirements for the Master degree course (a
further 32 points), students graduate with the award Master of Arts (Police
Negotiation)

residential courses provided by Police Service. These can be completed at any
