BCM302 Food and Beverage Biotechnology (8)
Prerequisite: BCM206 or BMS205
This subject introduces students to a number of molecular biology techniques including genetic engineering and examines a range of applications for this technology in the food and beverage industries. Applications discussed include ways in which the nutritional value of food can be increased by genetic engineering, the use of molecular biology in the viticulture industry for studying grapevine pathogens and genetically engineering grapevines and the use of genetically engineered yeast in winemaking.
