This subject analyses the international environment within which modern policing operates. It identifies and examines the formal and informal frameworks and structures which govern police agencies around the world. It discusses the issues which guide, limit and facilitate inter-jurisdictional and transnational policing. The subject draws on recent case studies of international police operational cooperation and examines the principles and arrangements which underpin and/or facilitate such operations. It also discusses the role of police in international peace-keeping operations and the implications of the military/police interface in such engagements. The impact of transnational crime and terrorism on policing practice will also be discussed.
