This subject will examine the national and international security environment and the legislative responses to the events of 9/11 and the following terrorist attacks. The impact on the delicate balance between maintaining the safety and security of a nation and preserving the human rights of the individuals within democratic society will be explored. Public perceptions, the sociological/psychological impact of the threat of terrorism and the role of the media will be examined. Law enforcement, public and private sector responses to safety and security threats will be discussed. Consequence management, including the important role of police, society and the media will be examined as well as the likely aftermath and return to normal following a terrorist attack.
