HIP112 Communication for Health Practice (8)

This subject develops the oral and written professional communication skills of students. Students will also enhance their personal communication skills, including self reflection and personal exploration. Students develop foundation skills in therapeutic listening, counseling, negotiation and collaboration. Specific therapy communication tasks and skills are addressed including writing treatment plans and reports. Whilst this subject has an emphasis on the language and conventions used in health practice it also helps students develop academic writing skills In addition, students will develop skills in communicating with people who have communication difficulties or use assisted communication. Students will learn skills in taking a basic medical history and getting a history of the presenting problem. A component of the subject includes 40 hours of work with a community organisation.
