INF436 Serving Children and Youth in Public Libraries (8)
This subject introduces students to the principles and practices of public library services to children and young adults, taking a user-centred approach. Students are prepared for appropriate management of services through funding; staffing; marketing and performance evaluation. The philosophy of selection based on the information needs and developmental reading needs of children is discussed, as is the evaluation of print and electronic resources, stock development and presentation activities. Students are also introduced to the principles and strategies of facilitating access to library services through issues such library design, display, promotion and community outreach.
