This subject will examine the terms crisis and maladaption. The subject will analyse types and stages of crises; crisis intervention and management and the role of the mental health worker in a crisis situation. A crisis can provide the opportunity for personal growth, development, and most of the time assists individuals to be more effective in coping, thus increasing an individual's self-esteem, well-being and self-worth. Legal and ethical aspects of managing crisis situations are covered, especially working with psychiatric emergencies.
