Prerequisite: BMS225 and POD212 and POD302 and POD315
Enrolment Restriction: Bachelor of Podiatry, Bachelor of Podiatry (Honours)students.
This subject introduces students to a range of pharmocological agents available to Podiatrists with S4 prescribing rights.
Medicines of particular relevance to this area of practice, including local anaesthetics are studied in detail.
It introduces surgical interventions employed for cutaneous pathology.
The scope of podiatric surgery practice is explored with consideration of the ethical and medico-legal implications.
There is a practical component to this subject as students undertake regional anaesthesia. Specific emphasis is placed on surgical principles and procedures, including clinical and theatre protocols. Practical sessions allow students to become familiar with the operating theatre environment and the activities necessary to prepare the environment, the operating team and the client for surgery.
