This subject explores Old Testament narratives concerned with the history of Israel from settlement in Canaan (Late Bronze Age) to the exile in 587 BCE (Joshua-2 Chronicles). It examines the major periods and their defining events, with due consideration given to alternative historical sources. The subject also investigates various functions of narrative within the Old Testament, and it focuses on the settlement narratives, the Samuel and Saul cycle, and the David narrative. Attention is also given to historical interpretation in the work of the Chronicler.
