THL214 The Holy Spirit and Christian Hope (8)
Prerequisite: THL111
This subject explores the Christian understanding of the Holy Spirit from biblical sources through major historical developments to contemporary interpretations and expressions. It examines the relationship between the identity and operation of the Spirit in trinitarian theology and the nature of hope in the Christian tradition. Attention is also given to the agency and experience of the Spirit of hope in the life of the world, the church, and the individual. Contemporary charismatic movements, interfaith dialogue and the widespread interest in spirituality are critically examined in the light of recent theological interpretations of the Spirit.
