This subject covers the following topics: the churches and social and political reforms; church-state relations and the experience of nonconformity in England and Wales; British theology and apologetics before 1914 CE; churches and national and imperial identity; the impacts of two World Wars and shifts in twentieth-century theology, liturgy and pastoral practice. Ecumenism, missionary growth and decline, and religious revivals in new and old religious movements are also explored.
