This subject explores the history of the critical interaction between scientific knowledge and religious convictions and conceptions, particularly in the Christian tradition. It analyses the changing ways in which scientific method and theory have influenced religious belief and thought, and vice versa. Questions of the nature and limits of knowledge in science and religious thought are examined. Detailed attention is given to modern theories in physics, cosmology and biology and their implications for major religious beliefs about creation, divine action in the world, human existence and the destiny of the cosmos.
