THL432 Pastoral Counselling: Relationship and Family (8)
Prerequisite: THL400 and THL420
Enrolment Restriction: Restricted to students enrolled in Graduate Diploma of Pastoral Counselling, Master of Arts (Pastoral Conselling), and Master of Ministry, who have met the prerequisite requirements for this subject.
This subject is an introduction to relationship and family counselling within pastoral settings. It will include an understanding of self in relationship, theological views on the place and role of family and relationships, and appropriate skills for counselling couples and families. Students will develop knowledge and skills in dealing with those having difficulties in areas including separation, divorce and remarriage, communication, conflict resolution, anger and violence, intimacy, sex, parenting, and step-parenting. Students will be encouraged to reflect on their own values and background in order to better assist those struggling with spiritual issues in this area.
