THL454 Christologies in Context (16)
Enrolment Restriction: Master of Theology
Master of Arts (Public and Contextual Theology)
Master of Ministry
This subject provides an historical and theological approach to the person and work of Jesus Christ. It reflects a growing concern within the discipline of Systematic Theology to consider the role of context in how the Christian faith interprets the core question of Christology: 'who do you say that I am?' The subject explores how such Christologies are constructed by focussing on the standard question, 'Who is Jesus Christ for us today?' in the light of diverse 'soteriological necessities' of the present age. The subject draws on Christological understandings from a variety of contexts in order to focus the examination of how the person and work of Christ may be understood in the Australian setting. The subject also explores how such a contextual Christology may serve as the primary stimulus for the development of a contextual theology in general.
