THL474 Teaching Religions of the World (8)

This subject provides the student with an overview of the main world religions within five main categories, an understanding of the differences and similarities between the traditions within those categories with respect to 'Rites of Passage' issues and the opportunity to develop strategies for teaching religions of the world to school students. The subject combines an academic approach along with practical skills towards a view of enabling the student to uphold the credibility of each religious tradition discussed in the classroom milieu. It examines ways to incorporate spirituality within class sessions, draws links with other perspectives (Biblical, Ethical and Philosophical) and develops appropriate assessment items within a school based curriculum.
